Appearance[]

While there are no illustrations supplied in the light novel, Cynthia is described as a slim, shapely 19-year old who often dresses in a black and pink diving suit, for her job taming dolphins at the Yokohama Sea Park. When not in her diving suit, she is once mentioned to wear a yellow dress.

As with her classic depiction, Cynthia wears her hair tied back into a ponytail, but her hair color in this iteration is said to be silver.

Personality[]

Cynthia is a kind, friendly young woman that quickly becomes standoffish and stern when Black Ghost is mentioned, due to her past trauma of a terrorist attack in which she lost her mother. She originally believes there's no point in fighting back against Black Ghost, as fighting will just lead to more war and tragedy, and feels it 's best that she stay entirely unaware of the organization and uninvolved.

Even with her hatred of the organization, she often thinks back to the kindness of a Black Ghost soldier who had helped her recover and the advice he had given her, to continue living as a human no matter what. This is due to a dark secret she hides, in which an unspecified amount of her internal make-up are now cybernetics due to the fact that such a conversion was necessarily to save her life and help her regain movement in her body. She fears Black Ghost coming back to bother her, and wishes to just live as an ordinary human without knowing of such a terrible thing.

While she does not bear the specific hate of machines or weapons as in her earlier incarnations, she doesn't want anyone knowing she's got machinery within her (although those with super-senses like 003 can detect it).

Relationships[]

Dr. Dolphin[]

Cynthia is close with her father, and feels happy for the peace that they've managed to live in since the horrible incident of three years ago. There is some tension and anger though at how her father had neglected her on her sickbed, spending time working with Black Ghost on the MMM1, although this wound up a necessary condition for her to be saved.

Her father carries his own trauma over the incident, and secretly thinks of how he can use the MMM1 to disable the machinery within his daughter's body, mercy-killing her and stopping the unfortunate circumstance of her being a cyborg. While he considers doing so and the idea of killing himself afterwards, he is unable to bring himself to do it.

Dr. Gilmore[]

Cynthia sees Gilmore as something like an uncle and is happy to see him again, with them having last interacted when she was 9 years old. Once Gilmore offers for her father to help him out though, she refuses and wants Gilmore to leave.

Even as Cynthia wants no involvement in stopping Black Ghost, the fact that the organization could still pose a threat to her and her father has Gilmore order the 00 Cyborgs to keep watch on them; sure enough, the organization has plotted to abduct the two and take them to Alaska.

Francoise Arnoul/003[]

Rather than getting to know Joe as in classic incarnations, it is Francoise that is the cyborg that tries to connect with Cynthia and meet with her to confirm her suspicions of her cybernetic state. Cynthia behaves coldly and nihilistic to Francoise, stating that the idea of fighting for peace has repeatedly just led to more fighting.

As Cynthia does not make any indication of knowing her own state to Francoise, the other girl is left believing Cynthia may not even know she's a cyborg. She later regrets not confessing it to Francoise, believing maybe her abduction could have been prevented if the team knew and that they could be good friends bonding over that point.

Francoise later comes to her rescue, though after the battle in Alaska, the Dolphins and 00 team part ways for Cynthia to continue her aim at living as a regular human girl away from danger.

John Cain Smith/0016[]

This man was a soldier who arranged for Cynthia to undergo a Biocyborg surgery similar to the one he had first underwent at Black Ghost. He remained supportive of Cynthia and gave her the advice to forget all that happened and to continue her life as a human.

The two would meet again when the Dolphins were taken to Alaska, and he would eventually decide to free Cynthia from her captivity. He is touched by Dr. Dolphin's refusal to use the MMM1 and consideration for his daughter, and opts to be the one to use the machine, knowing he'd die in the process due to his own cybernetics being ruined by it. He sacrifices himself to destroy the base with the machine, once more urging Cynthia to "live as a human".

Finpy[]

Finpy is a particular dolphin that Cynthia is very close to, and spends a lot of her time interacting with and training him. When she is abducted by Black Ghost, Finpy attempts to continue the pursuit against them until Ivan/001 telepathically convinces him to stop the chase and go back.
